Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Install my Font Through my Operating System?

You can! Adobe Photoshop and other applications you have downloaded on your computer will recognize the new font that you installed.

However, if you are using Adobe products in your browser, on your phone, or on any other computer, your fonts will only be on the device you installed the font on. The font will also get removed if you lose your device’s files or sometimes when you update your computer.

To avoid these hassles, it’s recommended that you install your fonts to Adobe’s cloud server through the Adobe Creative Cloud Application, so that your font is permanently added to your account and thusly your Photoshop.

Does this work for all Adobe Creative Cloud Applications?

Yes, once you install the font through the Creative Cloud Application, all of your Adobe products will have it installed. Including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and more.

Do I need to Restart Photoshop After Installing New Fonts?

Restarting Photoshop is not required for your added font to work. Once you properly install it, Photoshop will detect that you have it and immediately add it to your selection of fonts.

Why Does Photoshop Say a Font is Missing?

This happens because the project file (PSD in this case) relies on a font that is not installed on your computer. To avoid this happening to you, install your font through the Adobe Creative Cloud Application rather than through your operating system.

How can I fix a Missing Font?

Adobe Products will replace the missing font with a generic font (the default is Myriad Pro). You will have two options at this point

1. You can redesign your image or video using a new font you have installed

2. You can try to find the exact font that was used in the project

How do I Check if a Font is Licensed for Commercial Use?

Any reputable website you can use to download fonts will tell you the usage rights for the font before you download it.

If you are unsure still, you can upload the font file to a tool like Font License Checker to see the licenses and rights around a font.
